This qualification reflects the role of workers in a range of community settings and clients’ homes, who provide training and support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing. Workers promote a person-centred approach, work without direct supervision and may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team. To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

It has a focus on maintaining safety of the worker, the people being supported and other community members

Donna can research information about compliance and ethical practice responsibilities, and then develop and monitor policies and procedures to meet those responsibilities

Donna can work with basic information about the human body and to recognise and promote ways to maintain healthy functioning of the body

Donna can develop, implement and monitor service responses with a person with disability. Work is undertaken within a legislative and ethical framework to ensure the provision of high quality, person-centred service delivery which supports the person’s aspirations, needs, rights and interests.

Donna can communicate with people who have complex communication needs through effective use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) strategies and systems.
